UNICEF staff inspect polio type 2 (nOPV) vaccines and vaccine cold storage equipment in Tel Aviv Ben Gurion airport before their transport to the Gaza Strip

On 25 August 2024, in Tel Aviv Ben Gurion airport, UNICEF staff received and inspected 1.2 million doses of polio vaccine type 2 (nOPV2) shipment to be used in the polio vaccination campaign in the Gaza Strip. The polio vaccination campaign led by UNICEF and WHO and supported by UNRWA, aims at vaccinating 640,000 children below the age of 10 against the deadly but preventable polio Type 2 virus (circulating variant type 2 poliovirus (cVDPV2)).

With partners we continue to spare no effort to reach 90% vaccination coverage to stop the outbreak and prevent the spread of polio. This glimpse of success brings us hope, however, children has suffered enough and the only way to stop their suffering is a long-lasting ceasefire.
