A lack of safe drinking water in the dusty, rural village of Musa Jasser meant that 12-year-old Farzana (dressed in pink) would walk 7 kilometres with her mother to the nearest clean water source. They would need to travel up to three times a day, to collect water for her family. As a result, she missed four years of school.

Following massive floods throughout Pakistan, Musa Jasser was one of many communities supported by UNICEF to ensure vulnerable populations have access to safe water and sanitation. A new hand pump provided villagers with their dream of having fresh, clean water every day. The pump was built on a raised platform to help withstand future climate shocks. Farzana is now back at school and enjoying time to just be a kid with her friends.
